THE WEEK OF THE WEDDING
The week before the wedding is a time of reflection
and preparation to ensure that you have
taken care of all the tuxedos, your clothing and
shoes, and that any money owed for the ushers’
tuxedos is paid. In most cases, the day before the
wedding is when all of the tuxedos are picked
up. Each person is responsible for picking up his
or her own tuxedo, but when you stop by to get
yours, be sure to verify that everyone has been
by to get his or her tuxedo. If any tuxedos are
remaining, take them with you to save time and
trouble. Additionally, ask the business owner if
he or she will let the usher know you have his
tuxedo with you at the church.
The decorations and details for the cars
involved in the procession from the wedding to
the reception should be organized and ready to
attach. It is your duty to remind the Groom of special
things that he should take on his honeymoon
to please his bride. For example, a
change of clothing for leaving the reception
and heading to the airport or hotel. The Best
Man also helps the Groom choose a special
present for his Bride as a lifetime keepsake.
During the week before the wedding, it is
good for the Best Man to remind the Groom to
pick up the marriage license and to put it in a
safe place. Additionally, remind the Groom to
prepare the envelopes needed for the caterer,
the clergyman, the organist or pianist, the
church or hall, and any other bills that will
need to be paid on the day of the wedding,
such as the band or DJ, the limousine service,
and the florist.
In ancient days, the Best Man helped the
Groom pack for his honeymoon, made arrangements
for the pets, and literally anything else
needed to make the Groom’s day special. In
fact, the Best Man also cared for things that
required attention while the Groom was away
on his honeymoon.
