RECEPTION OBLIGATIONS
When the wedding ceremony is over, you will
feel so relieved that your duties are almost
done, although not yet completely done. Before
the end of the day, you will have a few more
things to assist with in regards to pictures and
the reception.
From where the wedding took place, you
will escort the Maid of Honor, and the Bride
and Groom to the reception. Between the wedding
ceremony and the reception location, you
will more than likely be required to pose for
pictures with the new couple, with the Maid of
Honor, with family, friends, and relatives so
remember to keep on smiling!
The entire wedding party will walk into the
reception hall two by two, with the newly married
couple waiting to enter last so they can be
introduced. Leading the Maid of Honor to her
seat, you should pull out her chair, and then
gently push it in just a little as she is seated.
After the guests have all been seated, the toasts
and speeches will start. The Best Man, the
father of the Bride, and often the father of the
Groom will speak special words. Other individuals
may be added to this list for offering
the Bride and Groom a toast, or if preferred, the
list can be kept short, all depending on the
Bride and Groom’s preference.
Traditionally, you as the Best Man will offer
the first toast and speech of the evening, which
generally includes something special about the
couple. You will offer best wishes, love, and
happiness among other things. The toast itself
is usually limited to a few brief comments to
ensure everyone has time to toast and the
reception can get started.
Additional toasts and comments from the
Groom to his Bride and then from the Bride to
the Groom are offered before or during the
meal itself.
After all the festivities are complete, you will feel
a sense of gratification for all the hard work.
This experience is an honor and something you
will cherish for the rest of your life.
