FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS
As the Best Man, you will be expected to take
charge, which means some financial responsibility
will fall on your shoulders. While the Best
Man is expected to pay for his own tuxedo,
shoes, gloves, and cuff links if worn, the Bride
and Groom generally will pay for all the boutonnieres,
other flowers, decorations, cake,
music, and photographer for both ceremony
and reception.
You will also be responsible for your travel
expenses if coming in from another city,
which includes airfare, taxis, hotels, rental
car, gratuities, and so on. Occasionally, the
Groom may offer assistance if you are traveling
but you should only accept his offer if you
know that you cannot afford to be in the wedding
otherwise.
Regarding expenses for the bachelor party,
they too will belong to you. If you need to hire
a van and a driver, party space, special entertainment,
food, and beverages, these too will be
the responsibility of the Best Man. Other times,
the ushers will volunteer to take up collections
for the party, or the Groom may offer financial
assistance, but the Best Man should never ask.
One of the most important roles of the Best
Man is to pay for a gift, special for the Bride
and Groom. Although your schedule is busy,
this gift to the Bride and Groom is symbolic.
Make sure you take care of this significant gesture
soon after you find out about the wedding.
